Suntech Displays European Union AD-tariff Free Modules, Residential Energy Storage System (RESS) and Double Glass Module at Intersolar Europe 2013.

WUXI, China (ots) – Suntech Displays European Union AD-tariff Free Modules, Residential Energy Storage System (RESS) and Double Glass Module at Intersolar Europe 2013. RESS will qualify for new PV storage subsidy rates announced by the German government.

Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd. (NYSE: STP) (“Suntech Holdings” or the “Company”), one of the world’s largest solar power companies, today announced that its European Union anti-dumping (AD) tariff free modules, Residential Energy Storage System, and double glass module will be on display at Intersolar 2013 in Munich, Germany.

Suntech will be able to provide an EU AD tariff-free version of all its standard modules including Wd mono, Wd poly and Ve poly for customers in the European market. The module’s components will be manufactured outside of Mainland China and will not be subject to the trade tariffs announced by the European Union on June 5th.

Suntech’s Residential Energy Storage System will qualify for the recently announced subsidy for self-consumption PV systems with storage in Germany. RESS has several modular power options available for a peak capacity from 4.5kWh to 17.8kWh, includes a lithium battery with an incentive policy compliant warranty and is available in either alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC) main circuit for on-the-grid or off-the-grid applications. RESS will also feature a touch-screen interface for easy operation and an intelligent control system that can be accessed remotely for real-time monitoring.

Suntech’s Head of Sales, Europe, Thilo Kinkel, said that “We are very confident that we can supply our customers in Europe and across the globe with excellent products regardless of tariffs. We also continue to launch innovative solutions to meet our customers’ needs such as our Residential Energy Storage System which provides an effective 24 hour power solution.”

Suntech’s new double glass module, the Wdj series, substantially reduces potential induced degradation (PID) by eliminating the negative voltage between the module’s frame and cells. The Wdj series is also rated for 1500V systems and can significantly reduce balance of system costs (BOS) by decreasing the number of inverters necessary in the solar installation.

Please visit Suntech’s booth in hall A3, stand number 270 during Intersolar in Munich, Germany from June 19th to 21st.

Al Qaeda group surges in Syria – intel

STORY HIGHLIGHTS

  • NEW: Al-Nusra Front could have as many as 10,000 fighters inside Syria, analyst says
  • NEW: Concern about the group is at an all-time high
  • The Syrian civil war is expected to top the agenda at the G8 summit this week
  • The meeting comes days after the U.S. said it will start arming Syrian rebels

(CNN) — Al Qaeda’s affiliate inside Syria is now the best-equipped arm of the terror group in existence today, according to informal assessments by U.S. and Middle East intelligence agencies, a private sector analyst directly familiar with the information told CNN.

Concern about the Syrian al Qaeda-affiliated group Jabhat al-Nusra, also known as the al-Nusra Front, is at an all-time high, according to the analyst, with as many as 10,000 fighters and supporters inside Syria. The United States has designated al-Nusra Front as a terrorist group with links to al Qaeda in Iraq.

That assessment is shared by some Middle Eastern intelligence agencies that have long believed the United States is underestimating the Sunni-backed al Qaeda movement in the country, according to a Middle East source. It is also believed that Iran is running training camps inside Syria for Hezbollah and that other Iranian militia fighters are coming into the country to fight for the regime.

The analyst has been part of recent discussions with the U.S. intelligence community, which is urgently working to understand what is going on inside the war-ravaged country and is consulting outside experts. The analyst, who declined to be named because of the sensitive nature of the information, stressed that all assessments about Syria are approximate at best because of the lack of U.S. personnel on the ground.

With the growing strength and support for al-Nusra, U.S. concerns are growing about its influence to further destabilize Syria and potentially pose a greater regional threat, administration officials have told CNN.

“They are making desperate attempts to get chemical weapons,” the analyst told CNN, noting that in the past few weeks, security services in Iraq and Turkey arrested operatives who were “trying to get their hands on sarin.”

A senior U.S. intelligence official told CNN recently that gathering intelligence on Syria, including its potential future use of chemical weapons, is now one of the top priorities of the U.S. intelligence community.

The Obama administration announced last week that it will start arming rebels because Syria crossed a “red line” by using chemical weapons — including sarin gas — against the opposition.

The development is likely to be at the center of the Group of Eight summit in Northern Ireland on Monday, setting a riveting backdrop to the meeting after Syria’s longtime ally Russia said the move supports “those who kill their enemies and eat their organs.”

In one corner, the United States, the United Kingdom and France say rebels need more help in ousting a 42-year dynasty and ending a regime that crushes dissent with lethal force.

In the other corner, Russia says its supply of arms to the Syrian regime isn’t nearly as bad as sending weapons to the rebels.

“I believe you will not deny that one should hardly back those who kill their enemies and eat their organs. … Do you want to support these people? Do you want to supply arms to these people?” Russian President Vladimir Putin asked Sunday.

He was referring to a widely circulated video that allegedly showed a rebel fighter eating the heart of a dead soldier. The video, posted by a group loyal to the Syrian government, raised questions about the rebels’ credibility, even though the Syrian opposition widely condemned the act.

On Monday, Putin and U.S. President Barack Obama will meet one-on-one to discuss the war that has now killed more than 92,000 people, including thousands of children.

Chaos on the ground

While world leaders struggle to form a unified front, the seesaw battles rage on inside Syria — and at a staggering price. About 5,000 Syrians are killed every month, the United Nations said.

The opposition once controlled the Damascus suburb of Yarmouk, which served as a Palestinian refugee camp. But Palestinian fighters supporting the regime say they’re taking the area back.

“We will keep fighting until we get rid of Jabhat al-Nusra and al Qaeda and all other insurgents in Syria,” fighter Abu Ihad told CNN’s Fred Pleitgen in Yarmouk.

The pro-government fighters said they’re angry about the U.S. decision to arm the opposition, especially since members of al-Nusra Front have joined the rebels.

In recent weeks, the rebels have suffered a series of devastating setbacks. Their loss of the stronghold Qusayr coincided with the arrival of Hezbollah fighters supporting Syrian troops.

Syrian rebels have pleaded for anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons, saying they are outgunned by President Bashar al-Assad’s military.

The U.S. has a new game plan

Obama has not detailed the increased military support, but Washington officials told CNN that the plan includes providing small arms, ammunition and possibly anti-tank weapons to the rebels.

The chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee told CNN’s Candy Crowley there is a strong consensus on arming Syrian rebels.

“As the Foreign Relations Committee voted nearly a month ago on a strong bipartisan vote of 15-3 … we believe the rebels need to be armed, the moderate elements of those rebels,” said Sen. Robert Menendez, D-New Jersey.

“Public intelligence sources have said that we’ve come to know who, in fact, we could ultimately arm. And the reality is we need to tip the scales, not simply to nudge them. And the president’s moving in the right direction.”

Britain has not decided whether to provide weapons to rebels but has provided technical assistance and training alongside the United States, France and its other allies.

“I’m in no doubt that responsibility lies with President Assad. It is the onslaught that he has inflicted on his own people which is the primary cause of the suffering, the humanitarian catastrophe and the deaths we have seen,” British Prime Minister David Cameron said Sunday.

Russia’s president said he believed both sides were responsible for the bloodshed. Putin said he hoped the G8 summit this week would help broker a peace deal to end the carnage.

But it’s unclear how many more lives may be lost in the meantime.

CNN’s Igor Krotov and Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.

(CNN) — The woman was related to at least two of the three children.

Was she their doting mother? An adoring aunt?

Or, given her relative youth, perhaps a much older sister?

“That leaves you with so many possibilities,” says New Hampshire State Police Sgt. Joe Ebert.

All four females are long dead, their bodies crammed into two 55-gallon barrels, the first barrel discovered by a hunter in 1985, the other 15 years later.

No one knows who they are.

Now, there’s a new push to solve a cold case that, so far, has stymied determined investigators.

This week, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, after a request from state police, released new 3-D facial reconstructions of the four victims. They provide more details than previous images.

Investigators hope that someone, by looking at gaps in their teeth, thickness of lips, the length of their hair or other features, will make a connection.

Joe Mullins, a forensic imaging specialist with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, created new facial reconstructions of the four victims in New Hampshire.

Joe Mullins, a forensic imaging specialist with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, created new facial reconstructions of the four victims in New Hampshire.

“The right person is going to see it,” says Angela Williamson, director of the center’s unknown victim identification team.

Seemingly endless questions and possible scenarios swirl around investigators who have sifted through hundreds of tips or leads over the years.

Is this a domestic case, or a professional hit? How did the barrels come to be on a wooded lot near a state park in Allenstown, New Hampshire?

Were the four transients? Could they have lived on a commune? Did they live in other state or country?

Police have no missing persons report associated with the mysterious case.

Ebert, in an interview with CNN on Friday, said he has been open to theories and new evidence since he joined the case a few years ago. He’s certain of one thing.

“I believe that there is somebody who knows who these children are and knows what happened to them.”

Two horrifying discoveries

During deer season in 1985, a hunter made a grisly discovery on a parcel of private property near Bear Brook State Park, known for its bogs, lakes and trails.

A steel drum contained the remains of the woman, estimated to be between ages 23 and 33, and the eldest girl, who was between 5 and 11. Original reports indicated they died of blunt-force trauma. Investigators later determined they were related in some way.

State police, who handle nearly all homicide investigations in New Hampshire, notified the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), a computerized index that includes such reports.

It was believed then that the victims might be a mother and child.

“They came to every person’s door and asked, ‘Have you heard anything, if you knew anyone that’s missing?’ ” Allenstown resident Andrea Kelly told told CNN New Hampshire affiliate WMUR this week. ‘”No, we haven’t heard anything.’”

Within one day of the discovery of the bodies, state police were called in to investigate an apparently unrelated slaying of a man in nearby Hookset. Suddenly, that murder became the priority of the police force.

“It took a great number of resources,” Ebert says of the Hookset investigation. That murder was finally solved eight years ago.

New Hampshire, with a population of about 1. 3 million, sees an average of only 20 to 30 homicides a year, according to Ebert. About half are domestic incidents.

Policy called for troopers to look into a cold case if they were not working on a current homicide.

So, in 2000, an investigator drove to the Allenstown scene to check on the proximity of barrels on the property to a road and a mobile home park close by. The property included a trailer and the remains of a burned camp store.

In another barrel, the trooper found two more bodies — a girl between 1 and 3 and another aged 2 to 4. Tests indicated the woman whose body was found earlier was related to the younger child. So far, the girl between 2 and 4 has not been linked to the woman.

Suddenly, everything changed.

Instead of a mother and child, police broadcast that they had four victims, meaning old assumptions were gone.

“So much can change in that span” of time, Ebert says of evidence and investigative leads.

Police spoke to between 50 and 100 individuals, including the property owner and residents of the mobile home park. Now the case is getting a fresher look.

“We are reanalyzing each and every person,” says Ebert.

The department, when the NCIC broadcasts went out in 1985 and 2000, was flooded with information. “We took great pains to rule people out.”

The sergeant acknowledges that many may question why it took 15 years to find a second barrel 100 yards from the other. “How do four people go missing and nobody knows it”?

The sergeant cites resources needed for the Hookset murder, the number of people in the major crime unit and the fact that autumn leaves covered much of the property.

“They did the best with what they had at the time,” he says.

“I keep an open mind to everything”

Williamson, of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, tells CNN that she and her team are awaiting results of more comprehensive DNA testing of the remains of the woman and young girls.

They are being aided by additional autopsy photos not available years ago.

Evidence indicates the victims were white, but investigators do not know skin tone or eye color. The bones were not in the best condition, given they were exposed to the elements and years of deterioration, says Williamson. They may have died as early as 1977 or 1978.

Joe Mullins, a forensic imaging specialist with the center, used newer technology to make the facial reconstructions. The use of clay directly applied on skulls is no longer necessary.

Investigators caution people looking at the reconstructions to focus on specific facial features.

“Don’t expect this to look like a Polaroid of the family member,” says Ebert.

Based on evidence and poor dental care, officials believe the four may not have been visible members of society.

“If they interacted with people on regular basis and suddenly disappeared you would expect somebody to say something,” says Williamson, a forensic scientist.

And they may not have been in a traditional family setting.

“I don’t think they were regularly in school and went home and had dinner with mom and dad every night,” says Williamson.

Ebert says, although it is a possibility, his hunch is the victims are not from New Hampshire. They could be from Boston, about 90 minutes away. Or Canada. Or more remote portions of the Granite State.

“I keep an open mind to everything,” Ebert says.

Police are not certain whether the victims were killed elsewhere and dumped on the property — or even when.

“It takes a very certain profile of an individual to kill a child,” says Ebert, who declined to elaborate on consultation with the FBI’s behavioral analysis unit.

“We either haven’t reached the family members we need to, or we missing their family members and for their own reasons they are not coming forward.”

One day, grave marker may bear names

Ronda Randall and her brother, maintain a blog about the Allenstown case and have provided some information they’ve gleaned to police.

“This case is so compelling,” says Randall, who grew up in southern New Hampshire and now lives in Maine. “This story has been very quiet.”

The siblings, who on their website say they do not represent a law enforcement agency, have talked with hundreds of people. Ebert says the pair have been in contact with state police.

Randall praises police for their doggedness and said she believes the case will be solved.

She believes she and her brother are in a sense a proxy family for the victims.

A grave marker at a church cemetery in Allenstown — a town of about 4,400 east of Concord — refers only to the first two victims found.

“May their souls find peace in God’s loving care,” the inscription reads.

One day, Randall says, she would like the grave marker bear names of the four victims. “I want to see it resolved.”

Social media might have made a difference

The woman and the girls were killed before there was text messaging, Facebook and other forms of social media — a fact not lost on investigators.

And, back in 1985, police did not have a clearinghouse for missing people. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children had been in existence for only one year.

Social media is a valuable tool for investigators, says the center’s Williamson, who leads a five-member team.

“From the missing side it has helped in a lot of cases,” she says. “You can see who perhaps who they were talking to. With teenagers, their friends know more than their families know.”

Unlike in 1978 or 1985, people nowadays are extremely connected, be it through cell phones, e-mail or social media.

“If you don’t get a text within two hours you might wonder what is going on,” says Williamson.

Still, she cautions, there are still cases today when people “are not reported missing for various reasons.”

Ebert says someone critical to identifying the four victims may not have come forward because of a sense of criminal liability or guilt for not having provided clues sooner. The victims, he says, may have been part of a disjointed family.

He hopes the DNA testing may clearly show the relationships among the four victims, providing police and the public more opportunities to identify them. “Its an awful tragedy to lose a person to a homicide. It is terrible miscarriage of justice not to know who carried out the crime against your loved one.”

Williamson and her team are working on 650 cases involving unidentified children. The oldest case is from Arizona, in 1933.

Since November 2011, the team has helped identify seven children, one of whom was a victim of Gary Ridgway, the so-called Green River Killer, she says.

DNA helped solve the cases. Now Williamson hopes to give a family a sense of closure.

“A good day is giving a child their name back,” she says. “And we get very excited.”

Neighborhood-Oriented Social Network Nextdoor Adds Mayor Bloomberg And NYC As Its Newest Users

Nextdoor, the company for creating private social networks accessible only to your local neighbors, has had a lot of people join since it first launched in 2011: More than 14,100 neighborhoods have been created on the site, and more than 100 new neighborhoods are being added each day. But today Nextdoor is set to announce a new user that’s special — the Big Apple itself. Today, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is set to announce a partnership with Nextdoor to adopt the service as a citywide communications tool. At the moment, the Mayor’s office is the first to sign on for using Nextdoor to communicate with NYC citizens about things like neighborhood safety issues, natural disasters, and local events. Other NYC city services are set to roll out use of the site in the coming months

Local social network Nextdoor partners with NYC to keep communities better connected with City Hall

Nextdoor, the company behind the private social network for neighborhoods, announced today a partnership with New York City. The move enables its communities to better receive important updates and information from their city officials segmented by neighborhood.

Integration with local governments is a natural evolution of the Nextdoor product. Originally aimed at becoming a “Facebook for neighborhoods”, some of the communities have added tie-ins with local law enforcement and other first responder agencies to help keep them safe. It now has more than 12,600 neighborhoods throughout the United States, and will be expanding its service internationally in the near future.

NYC Mayor Bloomberg said in a statement:

Partnering with Nextdoor is an important step in our adoption of strategic technology that better serves New Yorkers. Nextdoor gives New York neighbors an easy way to connect and communicate with those who live around them. It also provides the City with a direct line of communication to residents about important and often critical updates.

With the partnership, NextDoor says that NYC residents will start to receive information from the city through its website. As the city is already pretty savvy in the ways of social media, by dealing with Nextdoor, the government is able to target issues and alerts directly to specific neighborhoods.

But while hearing news from the government is great and helpful, it’s only push content, meaning that residents will only hear what the city has to share with them. Citizens won’t be able to submit queries directly to the mayor’s office from Nextdoor or any of their representative, unless they happen to be a neighbor and enrolled on the site.

The integration is free for the city and residents. So far, more than 120 city governments are using the service, including those from San Diego, Dallas, and San Jose. While it’s not the first time Nextdoor has been used by governments, the addition of NYC is a significant milestone — now the government of one of the largest cities in the country has essentially placed a seal of approval on the service.

Today’s move comes weeks after the private social network for neighborhoods launched its iOS application.

Juni in Bremen. Der Bericht steht unter www.hkk.de/geschaeftsbericht zum Download bereit.

Jahresergebnis 2012

Lamoda, The Samwer Brothers’ Russian Online Fashion Store, Snags $130M Led By Access Industries

Lamoda, the Russian online fashion site incubated by the Samwer Brothers’ Rocket Internet, is upgrading its wardrobe. On Tuesday, the company is announcing a new injection of $130 million — understood to be a record round of funding for a Russian ecommerce site, passing the $100 million that Ozon, Russia’s Amazon, picked up in 2011. This latest round was led by Access Industries, the VC and holding company controlled by Len Blavatnik, with participation also from Rocket Internet regulars, Summit Partners and Tengelmann. Access Industries is also a repeat Rocket Internet investor, with stakes in Pinterest clone Pinspire and home furnishings site Westwing. Last May, Blavatnik and Access Industries also put $200 million as a direct investment into Rocket Internet itself.

Werde auch langsam nervös.“ – „So was Blödes.
